Sunday lunch in Bogota – a great fish option!
Today we went out for lunch to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and consequently I can now recommend a new place to eat in Bogota! Coctél del Mar is located in Calle 69 with Carrera 17, and as the name suggests (if you’re familiar with Spanish), it’s – exclusively – a seafood restaurant (including sushi!). We arrived to find a long queue of people outside waiting to get in, but within 15 minutes we’d reached the front of the queue and were seated. It’s obviously earned itself what I can confirm is a well-deserved reputation.
I ordered the fillet of white fish with salsa marinera. This came with starters of fish soup (very tasty!) and salad:
Our main courses were brought to us quickly, and everyone really enjoyed their meals; the portions were very generous and we left the restaurant full to bursting (and very satisfied!). I had been deliberating over whether to order sushi, but the waiter said that there was a delay with the sushi, so I chose something else. A few things on the menu were no longer available, probably because we arrived after 14.30, so many of the most popular dishes had already sold out. Our waiter recommended the fillet of fish in marinera sauce, so that was what I ordered in the end. My boyfriend Javi order the gourmet paella, which he said was good. We washed it down with limonada de coco (coconut lemonade), which was one of the best I’ve tried in Colombia! Here’s how it all looked:
Underneath the restaurant is a Chinese supermarket selling Chinese beer and various imported goods, as well as a large variety of imported (and therefore mostly frozen) fish from all over the world. The prices were higher than an average supermarket, but not extortionate. There’s also another restaurant on the same level as the supermarket which just sells sushi.. we will definitely be returning so that we can report back on that!
